Mom Movie Reviews
by C.J.

ISN'T IT NUTS!

Movies that YOU think are okay to watch with your children are fine by some people...and reviled by others. Here's what our official "Mom Movie Review" thinks of some recent releases. She's a conservative gal, but we think also very rational.

Five 's denotes our a good choice for families with children from age 8-14. Granted...this is just OUR OPINION on the films. But maybe our shared details can help give you a hint as to whether or not you want to take the time to preview the show prior to watching with your entire family.

Zookeeper

Kevin James is a cutie! This movie has no graphic love scenes, talking animals and a hero who shows some great character. And when the animals were talking...guess what...they don't have much in the neighborhood of foul language. We tested this film on a number of kids and parents. Everyone on our panel agreed...it's a nice family show.

Justice League
Unlimited -- Saving the World

Remember watching Saturday morning cartoons? This dvd has three shows that made us feel nostalgic. At under $5, this is a great gift for a little boy or a grown up boy who likes superheroes. But there is some violence depicted, as you can well imagine. We recommend this for ages over 8 --but we strongly recommend an adult watching with the kids. (It's an excuse to watch superheroes again...YAY!) The "Kids Stuff" episode where Wonder Woman, Batman and the other heroes opt to get zapped back into being little kids is a big pleaser among our focus group of children.

Corpse Bride

A lot of 11-year-olds love this show, but bear in mind that many of the characters depicted have, well you know, died. So this one can be upsetting to many children. We watched with the kids, taking the recommendation from another mom. Our take? Perhaps we should have passed on the show with the younger kids and kept this one for the older groups. We absolutely recommend watching this one with the youngsters. Questions afterwards from little worriers can be rather deep and thoughtful and make a dream or two that night a little scarier than we'd like. A preview might be in order.
